China Glaze Sand Dolla Make You Holla: Swatches and Review

Hi everyone, welcome to Thursday.  Same old same old going on here.  Yesterday I was in a time crunch at work to get edits done.  Then after work, I went to my friend's gender reveal party.  Ever since I found out she was pregnant I was so excited to find out the gender of the baby.  I was convinced she was having a boy, but she is actually having a girl.  How cute!

So yesterday I came across a video on youtube (which will remain anonymous), and this person said that she doesn't think people should wear shimmer polish or glitter polish after the age of 25.  I sat there and went....wait....what?  I know that everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I wanted to know what everyone else thinks about this.  I also wanted to note that I turned 27 this year, and I am wearing glitter polish on all my nails today and am loving it.  I am pretty much in the school of thought that thinks that you should do whatever you want if it makes you happy and you aren't hurting anyone.  I was just wondering how others feel since I've been thinking about it since I watched the video yesterday.

Anyways, today I have a review of a new polish from China Glaze, Sand Dolla Make You Holla.  I'm not a fan of textures, but I'll be honest, I bought this polish because I thought it would look like a cupcake.  I have a strange love for anything cupcake, and this really does look like it.

This polish comes from the new China Glaze Sea Goddess collection that has six textured polishes based on a "sea" theme.  This polish was the only one I picked up from the collection and it is a white polish base, with a slightly pink hue.  The micro glitter inside the polish is pink, blue, green, and white.  This polish was on the sheer side and did need to be built up in three coats.

Below is one layer of topcoat over three coats.

Overall I think this polish is just okay.  I like it because it reminds me of cupcakes and frosting but I don't think I would wear it as a full mani.  I do think it would be fun for an accent nail though.  Did you pick up any polishes from this collection?

  1. I'm a fan of textures myself so this collection, I actually don't mind it. It looks fun and its something unique you can wear once in a while. Regarding what you can wear, I personally wear whatever makes me happy. Age doesn't matter, what makes you happy does :)

  2. If I couldn't wear shimmers or glitters, that would cut out like 99% of my collection lol. I think people should wear what makes them happy and just forget the haters. :) This polish is really cute on you. It does look like cupcake frosting with sprinkles hehe. :D

  5. What?! I'm almost 28, and glitters are some or my favorite things! I like nail polish for that reason-- you can wear something really crazy and creative, and it's still world-appropriate. I mean, I'm not going to wear a neon tube top, but I'm going to rock that glitter polish.

  6. I feel sad for that person that she's so closed off and uptight. I'm almost 41 and I wear neons, shimmers, glitters, etc (sometimes at the same time!) and won't let anyone tell me I'm too old for anything. Age is only a number and your state of mind determines how "old" or "young" you are. For the record, I also have tattoos, my ears are gauged to 1/2", my hair is fire-engine red, and most people guess me to be in my mid twenties, if I wanna rock glitter till I'm 60 then I will!
Anywho, I got this polish and I LOVE it! I layer it over Lime Crime Milky Ways (but I'm sure any off white would do well) so I don't have to do as many layers. :)

  7. I wonder if this person also subscribes to the theory that all women over 40 should have short hair? My opinion is it's just nonsense, like the hair 'rule'. If you want to wear something, be it your hair, nails, or even clothes, as long as you are happy and comfortable and not causing harm to anyone else, then who is anyone else to judge you for it. I've always tended to march to the beat of my own drummer as 'they' (whomever 'they'' are, lol) say and done my own thing. As for age, my grandmother once told me that everyone is over the hill until we die, then we're 6 feet under it. It helped make getting older a pleasure rather than something to fear, for me. I consider each age an adventure and challenge myself to learn and do things I might not have done when I was younger and it's made my life much richer in the process. I do have a disability, but if there is something I want to do, I will find a way around it to get to do it. I'm going sky diving for my 50th birthday and intend to have the best time of my life while doing so! My grandmother rode a motorcycle for the first time when she was 70 and by golly, if she can do that, then I can do whatever makes me happy too, at whatever age I choose to do it. I've even discussed with my children, that when I go, I want my nails done with the prettiest purple sparkly polish they can find. :D

Thank you much for this polish review. I hadn't seen any of this particular collection as of yet. I think it looks really good on you! Did you wear it to the gender reveal party? If so, I think it was appropriate as it could be used for that when you aren't sure what the gender is. Kind of fits for both. :) I'm definitely going to have to check out the rest of the collection to see if any catches my eye enough to buy. With glitters in it, I'm sure I'll probably be getting at least one. :D

    1. Angela, you sound like an amazing person to be around! I love your grandmother's viewpoint and how you have adopted it into your life. Thank you so much for sharing! I didn't wear this to the gender reveal party but it would have been a good one! I went with alternating pastel blue and pink with silver glitter :)
