China Glaze City Flourish Collection: My Picks

Hi everyone, happy Hump Day.  After I wrote that I had to check to make sure what day it was.  I'm a little tired :)  Today I have my picks from the new China Glaze City Flourish Collection.  I had honestly heard nothing about this collection until I saw some swatches on a fellow blog and then did some googling about it.  I had heard the formulas were horrible so what did I do?  Went out and bought them of course ;)

Only four of the twelve colors felt unique to me so I went ahead and picked them up.  I have extremely mixed feelings about this collection.  These polishes had such a weird finish and they did have horrible formulas, all of them.  The only reasons I haven't completely disregarded them are that I love the colors and they did dry pretty quickly.

On the formulas....these polishes were a weird mix of "thin but goopy".  I know that description makes no sense but if you've used a polish like that you'll know what it means.  These polishes all dry to a satin type finish which means you have to use topcoat to make them shiny.  Also, since they dry matte, they dry really quickly, meaning you have to be quick and careful about each coat of polish.  If you try to go over a spot twice while the polish is wet, the formula will get really thick and goopy since the polish is already trying to dry.

Okay...onto the colors.  First up is Grass is Lime Greener.  I picked this color because it's a weird combination of pastel and neon green.  I don't know why that appeals to me, it just does.  This polish is definitely a true lime, no hints of blue to be found.  I used three thin coats with topcoat below.

Metro Pollen-tin is a bit harder to describe color wise.  It's like a light yellowy orange but it did remind me of a melon color.  Ugh, sorry that description sucked, obviously just look at the color below ;)  I used three thin coats with topcoat below.

At Vase Value is a neon aqua pastel.  I am in love with the color on this one, I haven't seen anything like it.  Three coats with topcoat below.

Thistle Do Nicely was impossible to capture accurately on camera, my camera just freaked out when I tried to photograph this one.  This polish is a really bright warm neon pink.  Three coats with topcoat below.

Overall I have such mixed feelings about this collection.  I want to dislike them because the formulas are so awful, but I just love the colors so much.  If you don't want to work so hard for a polish, I would definitely not recommend these.  If you don't mind building up thin coats, you might be okay with them.

  1. I like your picks!! I really like ur swatches and honest opinion on the formula.. I usually don't mind working hard for certain polishes if their colour is unique or if i love the final look.. so I'll probably pick up the first three! (only cz ive never been a fan of neon pink. it looks terrible against my skin tone! :( )

  2. Oooooooooooh. I am soooooo here for the first 3 polishes in this post! But I will say, ChG hasn't done anything exciting for spring since the Hunger Games tie-in collection, and even that wasn't their official spring collex. I think some of last year's Avant Gardens were more unique.

  3. these are nice colours but sounds so disappointing, I usually really like CG's formula but i definitely know what you mean about 'thin and goopy'.

  5. I knew nothing about this collection. I never even got a press release from CG (I got a different one about the Spring Sea Goddess) - so this came as a surprise. I really love the colors you picked, they're right up my alley. It totally sucks that the formula is crap, but I'll be honest - I may deal with it just for those colors!

  6. Great picks! Your swatches make them look so flawless even though I've heard the formula was bad on them.

  10. So many cute colors in this collection! Yours is one of several reviews I've read though that mentions the formula being kind of iffy. I still really like Metro Pollen-tin and At Vase Value though!
