Nailstalgia-OPI Black Cherry Chutney

Hi there everyone, I hope all of my American friends had a happy Thanksgiving.  I have a really quick Nailstalgia post today which I'm writing in between Black Friday shopping for eight hours and then heading down to Chicago with the family for a play and dinner.

Today's Nailstalgia is OPI's Black Cherry Chutney.  I had found this polish in a set in my local TJMaxx and it looked like a dark vampy beauty.  To me it is a deep purple black cherry color.  For my swatches I used two coats but it definitely could have used a quick third coat.  Swatches are with topcoat.

Sorry for the express edition of Nailstalgia today but I'm off to go get ready :)  Plus I just ate two HoHos and now I have a sugar rush!  Black Cherry Chutney didn't live up to my expectations of being a vampy two coat shimmer but it is a pretty color.  I think there are better colors out there in the OPI range though.  Is this a color you have in your collection?

New Video-November Nail Polish Favorites

Hi polish friends!  Sorry for the slow week, I've been dealing with food poisoning since Sunday and am finally coming out of it today.  I'll keep it short since a cat tail is making it very hard to type :)  Today I have my November polish favorites with a few October favorites thrown in!

Julep Waleska-A Gorgeous Holiday Green!

Hi there everyone, welcome to Monday.  Well I was headed into work this morning but I had some stomach issues after dinner last night.  I'm not sure if I overdid the junk food or if it was the shady Taco Bell we ate at but I am home today.  Despite that, yesterday was a great day because we went to a giant craft fair with my mom.  I did post a haul on my youtube channel if you are curious what we came home with :)

Today I have a stunning holiday polish to share with you.  I was stuck the other night so I reached into a basket with untried polishes and pulled out Julep Waleska.  Whoa baby is it gorgeous.  I believe this is from August but to me it is totally holiday.

Julep Waleska to me is a shimmery green with strong blue undertones and dense gold shimmer.  It's such a good combination of green and teal that most of the time it was hard for me to tell which color it really was.  The shimmer was really strong in this polish and it just makes it look that much more "holiday".  The formula was really great and I used two easy coats with topcoat.

Overall I'm in love with this polish!  The color is gorgeous and shimmery and I'm already ready to wear it again :)  Sadly I did cancel my Julep box a few days ago.  I just was canceling it every month but I do still plan to hunt for good colors at my local TJMaxx.  Do you have a favorite holiday polish?

Fall Glitter Combo and Zoya Tanzy Swatches

Hello there my polish friends.  I hope the weekend is treating you well.  It's been a great weekend so far as I sit here in my robe under my heated blanket :)  Yesterday last minute we went to the Illinois/Penn State football game which was really fun.  We didn't stay the entire time because it was freezing and my lips actually turned blue.  Today we are going to a huge craft fair and my mom is driving down to meet us so you know I'm pumped about that!

Today I have my last Fall mani most likely.  Fall is my favorite season and it did get swallowed up by my surgery but with the number of days of snow and ridiculously cold weather we've had it feels like Fall is gone.

This combination is one that I wore the other day because Zoya Tanzy is the most unflattering color for my skin tone haha!  Once I combined these two colors it was like a Fall shimmer-bomb on the nails :)  This combination is Zoya Tanzy as the base and one layer of OPI Orange You Fantastic over top.

Below is Zoya Tanzy.  I saw this polish in stores and fell in love with it so eventually I ordered it on Zoya's website.  Zoya describes it as a bright tangerine orange with yellow gold metallic sparkle.  It's a beautiful warm metallic and I thought it would be amazing for Fall.  When I applied it I discovered one thing...this is probably the most unflattering polish I could have ever picked for my skin tone.

Besides the color being awful on me, the color is pretty and the formula is great.  I used two easy coats with topcoat below.

Well there it is for Fall this year.  I am sad to see it go but I figured it was over when I spent 15 minutes getting my car door open the other morning.

New Video-Urban Decay Ten Eyeliner Set: Swatches and Review

Hi Friday polish peeps!  I am so excited that it's Friday :)  It's been a long, drawn-out week at work!  But, there is an exciting weekend ahead so I just need to get through the next seven and a half hours :)  Tonight we are going to our friends house for dinner and video games.  Our friend actually took the day off of work to go to the midnight release last night of the Wii U Super Smash Bros game so we will definitely be playing that.  Tomorrow we've got some errands to run and then the hubby and I are going to a HUGE Christmas craft fair with over 350 vendors.  Can you tell I'm excited?

Today I have my very first makeup review video.  I did pre-film this back in September pre-surgery so I was a little flat because my zombie gallbladder was hurting me, but overall I'm pretty happy with it.  I think it's something I might keep up with in the form of videos.  Let me know what you think.  Have a great day everyone!

Formula X Alchemy-Swatches and Review

Hi there polish friends, welcome to Thursday.  Last night I was definitely in lump mode.  It's just too darn cold here and my hormones were just all over the place.  I was happy because I had cheese with dinner, then mad because I ate all the chocolate yesterday, then crying for no reason #justgirlythings  Does anyone else hate those #justgirlythings on pinterest?  Haha, I do!   I couldn't hold in the crazy last night.  Then right before bed I got the brilliant idea to convince my husband we should switch around our spare rooms (just convince him, not actually do it).  Somehow through all that I did manage to fall asleep right away, too much crazy.

Today I have a polish I couldn't wait to show.  I know I'm behind on swatching collections, my hands are like lizard dry.  I've been slathering them with lotions and oils and wearing the dorky gloves when I sleep but nothing is helping.  Anyone have any suggestions for a really strong hand cream?  I do promise to catch up this weekend, dry hands or not!

Formula X Alchemy is a polish I picked up during the Sephora VIB sale when it was 20% off.  I saw it in the catalog of holiday gifts and although I don't normally buy these polishes because they are pricy, I thought it was too pretty to pass up.  I think it's sold out online but I would check in-store if you are looking for it.

This polish is a loaded dusty platinum antique gold shimmer with multi-colored shimmers.  It does look different in different lighting, sometimes it looks gold, sometimes a little bronze, and sometimes even a touch purple.  The array of shimmers is beautiful and really sold me on it.  I see gold, blue, purple, and copper.  The formula is really great and opaque, I used two easy coats with topcoat.

I'm in love with this polish.  It's nothing like I've ever seen before and just so unique and sparkly!  It is limited edition so if you want it I would try to find it as soon as you can.  What do you think of this polish, will you be buying it?

Twinsie Tuesday-Favorite Sports Team

Hi there my polish friends and welcome to Tuesday.  Thankfully I haven't frozen yet with this polar vortex fun we've been having.  -8 wind chill this morning and icy roads...isn't it still Fall?  Not much new is going on since the weekend.  I had a super lazy night last night, but to be fair, so did my husband :)  I ordered my Erin Condren planner so I spent the night browsing planner supplies on etsy.  Try to contain your excitement for the thrilling life I lead ;)

Today's Twinsie Tuesday prompt is favorite sports team.  I don't really follow sports all that much, although my husband is a die hard Chicago sports fan.  I knew I was going to break his heart when I didn't choose a Chicago team but he took it better than I expected.  When I lived in Tampa we got to go to a lot of Bucs and Lightning games.  We were even at some of the Playoff games for the Tampa Bay Lightning which was really amazing so that's the team I relate to the most...The Tampa Bay Lightning (hockey).  I've always been a hockey fan more than anything else.

I decided to keep it simple to really show off the contrast of the team's colors, white and a royal deep blue.  My husband even got in on it and helped me pick out the right shade of blue.  We looked at all the blues on my OPI wall rack and I picked a few and he asked me to swatch them to see them accurately...I kid you not :)  I guess even if it's nail polish, men must take their sports seriously.  We had the swatches of the blues, compared to the colors of the team on google, then we discussed which was better...

For my white base I used a pure white, OPI Alpine Snow.  For my shade of "lightning blue", the hubby and I settled on OPI Keeping Suzi at Bay, which was deep but not too deep of a blue.

I can't wait to see what everyone else chooses and if it relates to where they live now!

Fall Orange: OPI In My Back Pocket

Hi there polish friends, welcome to Monday.  I hope you all had a great weekend.  I had a good one myself.  Saturday was really busy.  In the morning the hubby and I ran errands and did grocery shopping and then after lunch we were with our friends the rest of the day.  We played Mario Kart on their Wii U, went out to dinner, and then came back and watched Guardians of the Galaxy.  Yesterday was supposed to be spent swatching in the afternoon but somehow it turned into nap time with a kitty and then wrapping Christmas presents...oops.

It feels a little strange writing this post after the morning I've had, but it is still technically Fall.  First, the wind chill is 1 degree, second, I had to clear the snow off my car this morning, and third, I am not exaggerating when I say that it took me a full fifteen minutes to get the door to my car open because it was frozen shut.  Yea, so here's a nice Fall orange...

I wanted to show OPI's In My Back Pocket because Thanksgiving and November still are Fall to me.  This type of weather we are having right now is typically January weather.  I wore this around Halloween and right when all the leaves were falling and it seemed like the perfect orange.  Not too bright but not too deep.  I always struggle finding that perfect balance with orange.

The formula isn't amazing with this one but it's workable.  I found that the best thing was to do three thin coats since the polish tended to be on the thin side.  For my swatches I used three thin coats with topcoat.

What's your favorite orange polish?  Do you have one you specifically like for Fall?  Thanks for reading and I hope everyone is keeping warm if you're in a "polar vortex" area like myself.  P.S. why are we naming these things now?  ;)

Holidays=Glitter

Hi everyone, one day closer to Friday!  So last night I gave eggs a try.  I went all out and ate a three egg and cheese omelet.  I didn't really like eggs before I was allergic to them, then when I couldn't eat them I wanted them all the time :)  It seemed to go really well.  I tried eggs maybe two months ago and was sick for days, this time no hives and I don't feel sick at all so I think that's a good sign.

So I found this e-card on pinterest the other night, and that is exactly how I'm feeling right now.  I think people either fall into one of two categories 1.) They wish people would stop with Christmas and just focus on Thanksgiving or 2.) They want all things Christmas right now.  I am category 2 :)  I'm ready for the music, I've got tons of present shopping done, and most of all I'm ready to decorate and wrap (which I haven't for the record).  I had never really been that into Thanksgiving but then with food allergies it turned the one food-centric holiday into one that I dreaded.  Last year my family and husband went to Florida and spent Thanksgiving on the beach and it was the best Thanksgiving I've ever had.  I'd love to know if you're a "1" or a "2" and why, no judgements here...my blog name has Piggies in the title after all ;)

Link
So now that Halloween has come and gone, boo, I feel like we are officially into the holiday season.  To me, holidays mean glitter, not only in the decorations but also on the nails.  It seems like every mani I do lately just begs to have glitter added to it and this combo below was one I especially liked.

I had never worn OPI My Dogsled is a Hybrid as a full mani and boy was that a bad choice.  It's so dang pretty!  To me it's like a vibrant spearmint color and I'm now obsessed with it.  I wore it on its own for a day and then made it a little bit extra special with an accent nail of OPI Wonderous Star, which is a mix of metallic black and gold microglitter from last year's holiday collection.  I just loved this together!

I can't wait to show you guys my next glitter combo, the one I'm wearing today, but it's a secret.  Thanks for putting up with my food and holiday shenanigans!

New Video: Sally Beauty Manicure Basics Haul!

Happy Hump Day folks!  We are in full freezing weather here!  I am not a fan.  I also feel like we are in full holiday swing though, that I am a fan :)  I will get back to swatching soon, it's just been a hectic last few weekends.  Clearly right now it's either blogposts or videos, I haven't gotten into doing both at the same time again, but I will :)

Twinsie Tuesday-Your Least Favorite Polish

Hi there everyone, welcome to Tuesday.  I hope the week is going well for everyone.  If you skipped my post yesterday, I have some exciting news.  This weekend I tried dairy (a little experiment since I had my gallbladder removed) and I had no allergic reactions.  Before if my husband drank milk and kissed me or cheese even touched my food I would break out in hives and be sick for days.  Last night I ate chips with cheese and salsa and then we ordered gluten free Domino's with light cheese and I had four slices.  Not healthy, no, but cheese is my favorite food and I haven't had it in two years!  I am SO happy right now.  I didn't even really work yesterday, I just sat excited at my desk thinking about food :)  I do plan on trying my other allergens, but I'm trying to go slowly so I don't overwhelm my system.

See, told you I was excited!  Today's TT prompt was an interesting one.  A few months ago I put together a blog sale and most of the polishes I didn't care for went into there.  Might as well have other people love them!  I can't part with my OPIs however, and you know I can't really love all those colors.  I went with the first polish that popped into my head as the one that I really can't stand wearing as a full manicure, OPI San Tan-Tonio.

Now, there's nothing wrong with this polish per-say, I just can't get into it.  I've worn it several times trying to make it work, but I end up taking it off right away.  These caramel/butterscotch type of warm light browns just look horrible on my skin tone and completely clash.  There's also one from the new Nordic collection, Going My Way Or Norway? that I feel exactly the same way about.  That was the runner up for this post actually.

If you do like this color, the formula is really good, I used two easy coats with topcoat for my swatches.  I think this polish would look nice on someone with neutral to warm-toned skin, olive skin, or anything darker than my ghost complexion.  I do use it for nail art though.

Sorry, I had to...look....I ate this.  Clearly I will never be a food blogger.  I also didn't realize that I didn't wait to take a bite of one of the pieces before I took a picture haha!

Have a great day everyone!  Leave me a comment with a polish you hate, let's compare :)

New Video-October 2014 Empties! (+An Exciting Allergen Update)

Hi everyone, welcome to Monday.  Today I have a new video up, which is hopefully one of many to be coming soon!  I had a crazy busy weekend, even though the in-laws cancelled last minute Friday night.  Friday my mom came down and we went to a craft fair and then out to dinner out Outback.  Saturday the hubs and I drove to this very rustic home decor store an hour away to buy Christmas decor and then came back and saw Interstellar in Imax.  Then yesterday we did shopping in the am and spent several hours at our friends house playing Mario Kart on their new Wii U, which was awesome!

One of the most exciting things however, is that I ate ALLERGEN FOODS!  It's funny because everyone I talked to after surgery, including several doctors, said that my gallbladder could have been causing my food allergies.  I just didn't really believe it and then something compelled me to take a bite of a gingerbread twix at the craft fair on Friday (I never cheat by the way) and I didn't get sick, didn't get a rash.  Later that night I ate a little bit of cheese at Outback!  So far I've tried a bite of twix, the outback cheese, mozarella cheese, eaten a whole bag of m & ms, half a mcdonald's hash brown, and then had cheddar cheese twice yesterday.  So far I only had a few stabs from the mozarella but everything else has been fine.  Before, if cheese even touched something I ate I would break out in hives on my face, legs, and hands, likely throw up, be sick for days, and look like I had two black eyes.  Obviously I'm over the moon :)

I'm just hoping that all of this sticks because it would be amazing to eat like a regular person again.  People don't realize how much food plays into daily life until they can't participate anymore.  Now before I sound too crazy, I actually know an acquaintance that had food allergies before his gallbladder was removed and is now fine.  Apparently my husband told me right after surgery but I had no recollection haha!

If you came here for the video...my apologies!  Here it is below!

OPI DS Titanium

Hi there everyone, welcome to Friday!  I'm not at work today because I've got to get my house ready for the in-laws tomorrow.  I basically have to do stuff then rest, do stuff then rest.  My mom is also headed down this afternoon because we are going to a big craft fair in town that happens every November.  I'm excited :)

Today I have a relatively new polish, one of two new DS polishes released this year.  I just haven't been feeling swatching the other one because pink doesn't seem Fall appropriate to me.  I figured I'd show this one because it's a really interesting polish and I do like it for Fall.

DS Titanium is a jelly-based polish that is a smokey grey.  This medium to darker smoky grey is filled with tons of small glitter pieces including iridescent flakies, holographic glitters, and other bits of micro glitter.  This polish is slightly sheer but I did only use two coats for my swatches.  These polishes are meant to dry slightly textured but I preferred to add topcoat to make them shiny.

Overall I was really pleased with this polish and I think it's a unique addition to the DS line.  I really like all the glitter and the flakies in this polish, making it super sparkly.  What do you think of this polish, will you be picking it up?

China Glaze Choo-Choo Choose You

Hi there everyone, welcome to Thursday.  Yesterday was an interesting day haha!  So I'm not sure if I've mentioned that my in-laws are coming down on Saturday.  So I've been panicking because a.) I need to clean my entire house and I've been exhausted and b.) I have zero ideas for what we can do as a group.  So yesterday I took a half day and slept three and a half hours until my husband got home from work.  I was able to do some cleaning around the house.  It seemed like a great idea until bed time last night when I laid awake the entire night.....oops!

Thankfully today is my last day of work this week.  I'm taking the day off tomorrow to get the house ready and then my mom is coming down for a craft fair in the afternoon.  Something bizarre that happened though is that yesterday I went to get in my car and I see this pretty black cat sitting in our yard by the pear trees.  We have lots of neighborhood cats so that's normal for us.  I yell hi to it and then leave for work.  This morning I went to leave for work and glance over....there's an orange cat in the exact same spot as the black cat from yesterday.  It was one of the strangest things.  I'll just take it as good luck ;)

Without writing a book this morning I'd better get onto the polish!  Today I have a polish from the China Glaze All Aboard Collection which was one of the collections released this Fall along with The Giver collection.  I do have a few other polishes from this collection but I just haven't gotten around to swatching them.  I did want to show off this polish as it is a really unique one.

Choo-Choo Choose You is a really interesting polish, almost one that's hard to describe.  At it's base it's almost a medium blue-purple color but as you can see it is loaded with shimmer.  The shimmer in this polish has a multi-dimensional effect, which to me mostly looks gold and red and sometimes even olivy green.

This polish was a little bit on the sheer side with its application so I would recommend three thin coats.  I do also think two thicker coats will work but dry time will be extended if you do it that way.  My swatches show three thin coats with topcoat.  I definitely think the color is worth it.

Props to China Glaze for creating a really awesome and unique color.  I haven't tried the other colors I bought from this collection, but this color is definitely a unique one in my collection!  Did you pick up any polishes from the All Aboard Collection, leave me a comment down below!

NYC Polish Queen's Jewel's Collection-My Picks!

*Press Samples
Hi there everyone, happy Hump Day!  The week continues on!  It's been a little rough getting back into working full time, not really the work itself, just the fact that I'm so dang exhausted.  I've gotten home each night and am just a worthless lump under my heated blanket.  Not so good when the in-laws are coming on Saturday!

Today I have two really interesting polishes to share with you!  NYC is a drugstore brand that I've never tried before but I got to pick out some polishes to try.  I was really pleasantly surprised.  The Queen's Jewel's Collection is a new collection released for Fall made up of six Crystal Couture topcoats and three cremes.  At the time I picked these out I was in full blown gallbladder sickness so I picked out my two favorites to share with you so as not to get overwhelmed :)  Let's take a look below...

Rule the City-silver gunmetal metallic with red metallic glitter

This polish is such a cool polish, especially for something found at the drugstore.  I've never seen a combination like this and it's a great color for Fall.  The silver base didn't drown out the red which was really nice and the formula was really great.  This polish was really opaque.  I used two coats but it could easily be a one-coater.  Definitely a standout polish!

NY Princess-deep dark purple/black jelly base with purple and blue glitters

My second choice was a sparkly one of course :)  This polish is a pretty combo of a lighter metallic purple glitter and an aqua colored microglitter in a deep dark jelly base.  Like the first polish, I was really impressed that the glitters weren't swallowed by the base polish.  I chose to layer this polish over black, just because that's how I would personally chose to wear it so I figured that's how I would swatch it.  I used one easy coat over black with no formula problems at all.

Overall I really enjoyed both polishes.  I will admit I usually don't give drugstore polishes enough credit but both of these were really unique and had really great formulas!

*Polishes in this post were sent for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Twinsie Tuesday-Minimalistic

Hi everyone, welcome to Tuesday.  Yesterday was my first day back at work.  I'm trying very hard to have a positive outlook on my life now.  I really think this surgery was my new jumping off point.  I'm healthy now after so many months of migraines and then this gallbladder stuff.  I had a terrible year at work for health reasons and eventually had to settle with not making my yearly points and getting a bad review, but it's time to start fresh with all things, especially right before the holidays.  Speaking of work, I made it through the morning really well, but then kind of hit the wall in the afternoon.  I did make it through the whole day though, but I did want to go to bed at 6:15 last night :)

I will apologize in advance for not really completing the theme today.  I wanted to do a nice chevron accent nail but seeing as how I was ready for bed at 6:15 last night it didn't really happen.  I literally was just a lump under my heated blanket and was snuggled with a kitty that missed having me home the last three weeks.  So for today I just have a swatch I've been holding onto for awhile, that's about as minimalist as it gets right?

Essie Sexy Divide is a polish I picked up a few months ago with some Kohls cash.  That's usually how I pick up all my random Essie additions.  Sexy Divide is a deep blue/purple shimmer that was released in the Winter 2008 collection.  I thought it would be great for the Winter months and it's not a color that I have in my collection.  For my it leans pretty blue but you can definitely see those flashes of violet on certain angles of the nail.

The formula was great and I used two easy coats with topcoat for all my swatches.

Overall I'm really happy with this Essie.  Again, sorry for failing on the minimalism front, I'm sure my fellow Twinsies will have done better than me :)

Glitter Lambs Pumpkin Fall Collection!

Hi there my lovely polish friends.  I am in such a positive mood :)  I had a great weekend with my husband and parents up in Chicago.  It was my first really active weekend after my gallbladder surgery and we went to a big craft fair and then to a flea market the next day.  I did have lots of pain but with resting in between, it was a really fun time.  After the craft fair I am in such a mood for the holidays and after my surgery I am in such a mood to start things off on a positive note.  I feel healthy, I'm back at work today after three weeks of recovery, and I feel like I have a fresh start with things to kick off the holiday season :)

Today I have a really special Indie collection to share with you.  I first saw this Pumpkin collection in a Youtube video and I knew it was something I would love.  I had never tried Glitter Lambs polish before but I can tell you my experience was a very good one.  This collection features four pumpkin dessert themed glitter polishes, all in clear bases, meant to be worn as glitter toppers.  Let's take a look.

Pumpkin Bread-clear base with black hexes, oranges hexes, gold hexes, and black dots

Pumpkin Bread is one of my favorites of the group because of the combination of black and orange.  It actually reminds me of one of my cats, Millie, who is a tortie (orange and black), which we call our "Fall" cat :)  The combination is beautiful and the formula is spot on.  I used one easy coat over Barielle Taupe Notch, with topcoat.

Pumpkin Cupcake-clear base with white hexes in different sizes, orange triangles, tiny orange hexes, and rainbow holographic glitter

If you know my blog, you'll know I'm obsessed with anything related to cupcakes...hence Pumpkin Cupcake!  This one I like because I think it's a nice transition from Fall to Winter because of the white glitters...plus the white glitters totally represent vanilla frosting :)  I have never seen triangle glitters before so I definitely love the orange triangles in this polish.  Another great formula, I used one coat over OPI Berlin There Done That, plus topcoat.

Pumpkin Pie-clear base with large gold dots, orange triangles, small gold glitter hexes and squares, tiny orange hexes, and holographic hexes

Next up, holo sparkly gorgeousness.  This polish is the most blingy of the group and it's very pretty.  It has those orange triangles that I like and those gold dots are really cool but not too big that they stick up off the nail.  I think this one really speaks for itself, especially over darker polishes.  I used one easy coat over OPI Skyfall, plus topcoat.

Pumpkin Spice-clear base with dense apricot copper colored glitter

Last up is a coppery glitterbomb.  I definitely didn't expect as dense of a glitter payoff, next time I wear this I will build it up and wear it on its own in two coats.  I have no glitter like this and the color just screams Fall.  I can just see this as the perfect solid glitter accent nail.  The glitter is very dense but I had no problems with the formula.  I used one coat over Barielle Soho at Night, plus topcoat.

I'm in love....that is all.  Stunning glitter combos and fantastic glitter formulas, I can't ask for any more.  Fall is my favorite season and to have a collection based not only on pumpkin but pumpkin desserts, it's like someone just knock me out already because I'm too excited!  Definitely check out Glitter Lambs if you haven't and let me know your favorite down below.   I've seen previews of the Christmas collection and I'm losing my mind!!!! ;)
