Top 15 Summer to Fall Transitional Nail Polish Picks!

Hi everyone, happy Friday.  Well look at that, I might have actually gotten myself together for the first time in a few months ;)  I had a really boring day at work yesterday and then I suddenly decided I needed to come up with a new post and a video and do it all in one night, so I did.  Considering our internet works in minute and a half spurts I'm surprised it worked out, but here it is, my Summer to Fall transitional polish picks.  It's a weird weather time here in Illinois.  For example, today the heat index is 106, tomorrow will be in the 70's.  I'm not ready for dark vampy colors but I'm also not really into neons anymore either.  Here's 15 polishes I pulled to transition into Fall while keeping a little bit of Summer brightness but going a little bit deeper in color.   The video version of this post is at the end!  On a personal side note, last night I had a weird dream that I needed to buy both the Naked Basics palettes.  I'm just wondering what kind of person has dreams like that, anyone besides me?  *crickets*

1. OPI Amazon...Amazoff-I was surprised to see this in a Spring/Summer collection this year and while I love the color, I just never reached for it because it felt too dark for Summer.  I can see myself reaching for it now and into Fall.

2.Ciate Pool Party-This polish was a freebie add-on with my purchases from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale but this little mini blew me away.  This polish is everything I wanted Essie Butler Please to be (which I recently threw away).  The color is a bright and vibrant cobalt blue and it's amazing!

3. OPI Blue My Mind-This shimmery metallic blue is one of my favorite OPIs, even though they make a lot of these deep blue metallics.  This one is the brightest of them and it really shows up blue on the nail.  Obviously the swatch below is an older one and it looks very bright.  In person, it's more of a deeper lake blue.

4. OPI Teal the Cows Come Home-Yep, I like these frosty metallic-y blues...I know not everyone will.  I chose this polish over OPI Dining Al Frisco because it's more vibrant and has that hint of Summer-y essence to it.

5. Zoya Kelly-This polish reads more Fall to me but it's such a gorgeous and chic color.  On me this polish is a blue grey slate cream and it's nothing I've ever seen before.

6. Zoya Yuna-This next polish is from the new Zoya Fall collections (reviews coming soon), but I knew it had to be included.  This polish is a blue grey base with gold and copper shimmer.  It's stunning, that is all.

7. OPI Do You Have this Color in Stock-holm?-Another vibrant option, this blue-violet cream keeps the vibrancy of Summer but can appear darker indoors.  This is another unique color, unlike anything I've ever seen.

8. OPI You're So Vain-illa-I wanted to include a nude because I'm a big fan of a good opaque nude.  I went with a darker version for the transition to the cooler months.

9. Celestial Cosmetics Sun Kissed-I would have never thought that I would fall in love with a holo but this one is perfect.  The holo is so strong in all lights and I love the burnt orange color.

10. Butter London Rosie Lee-The rose gold trend continues and I chose this glitter because it's a pinker, darker version of rose gold.

11. Zoya Rocha-Orange screams Fall to me and Zoya Rocha is a bright version of the deep dusty oranges we typically see for Fall.

12. Essie Watermelon-Another bright pick, this polish is another traditional polish but to me it's a bright version of the traditional maroons we see for Fall.

13. Picture Polish Flirt-Ugh, this polish is perfection!  This was a release from a Summer collection and while it's a bright pink, it has a hint of berry.

14. Essie Jamaica Me Crazy-This shimmery purple is bright but not too bright to qualify as a jewel tone to me.

15. OPI OPI Scores a Goal!-Another odd choice for a Spring/Summer collection, but this is a perfect transition color for me into cooler weather.  It's a medium warm red raisin color and I love it.

Leave me a comment with your favorite transition color!

China Glaze Surprise Collection (full)-Swatches and Review

Hi polish friends, happy Thursday.  Unfortunately I don't know the results of my two spine MRIs from yesterday yet.  The doctor thought he would be able to look at them but it was a no go.  Basically in the next two days if I get a call from him it's bad, if I don't get a call, it's good.   I did however get upped on my dose of migraine medicine and put on a second migraine medicine which should also help me sleep.  Now I guess I just painstakingly wait for two days haha!  I was so tired after yesterday I went to bed at 9:15 after falling asleep with my computer balanced on me :)

Today I have another collection to show you, one which isn't new, but I still wanted to show anyways.  It's weird because this collection has been out at my Sally's since the Summer but it just came out at my Ulta in the last week or two.  Let's get right to it!  China Glaze's Surprise Collection consists of six chunky glitter polishes, all with clear bases, all with mixes of matte and shiny glitters.

Glitter Up-dark blue, light blue, light peach, and dark peach hexes.  One coat over China Glaze Capacity to See Beyond.

Don't Be a Flake-black, aqua, and rose gold holographic hex glitters.  One coat over China Glaze Intelligence, Integrity & Courage.

I'm a Go Glitter-lime green, fuchsia, and aqua hex glitters.  Two coats over Essie Take it Outside.

Shine-nanigans-fuchsia, violet, and pale green hexes.  Two coats over L'oreal Flashing Lilac.

Create A Spark-black, periwinkle, and pink holographic hexes.  One coat over Essie Style Cartel.

Glimmer More-fuchsia, peach, pale pink, and pale yellow hexes.  One coat over Essie Partner in Crime.

The formula was pretty much the same across the board.  Some of the polishes had a little too much clear base and needed two coats to get a good amount of glitter on the nail.  This collection was just okay for me.  Some of the glitter colors repeated too much for my liking so it was hard to distinguish the polishes from one another.  Also, the best method to apply these was the "blob and dab" method instead of applying them like a normal polish.  My favorites were Don't Be a Flake and Glimmer More.  Did you pick up any from this collection?

Ellagee Villainous Holo-ween-Syndrome & Dr. Facilier Duos

 *Press Samples
Hi polish friends, happy Wednesday.  I hope this week has been treating you well.  Today is my big spinal MRI day that I've waited a month for.  I'm seeing the neurologist right after so if there is something on the scans, I'll know right away.  I will let you all know tomorrow what the results are, fingers crossed.  Nothing makes me feel better than beautiful polishes and today I have some real gems to share with you.

Today I have two duos of polish which are from Ellagee's newest collection called Villainous Holo-ween.  This collection is inspired by Disney/Pixar villains and features mega holos and matching glitters.  How cool is that?  I am a huge cartoon movie fan so this collection is right up my alley :)

SYNDROME DUO-

First up is the Syndrome duo from the Incredibles, one of my favorite cartoon movies...I want to be part of a family that all have different superpowers!  The holo in this duo is called When Everyone's Super... and it's a coppery orange with linear and scattered holographic shimmer.  The holo in this polish was really strong and very apparent indoors.  The formula was perfect on this polish and I used two easy coats with topcoat below.

The glitter in this duo is ...No One Will Be.  Let me tell you, the two glitters I tried, were absolutely stunning.  I kid you not, my husband looked over when I was doing my nails and said whoa, what polish is that?  This blue glitter is a mix of iridescent and bright sky blue holographic glitters.  This glitter is SO sparkly, I've honestly never seen glitters so luminous before.  The glitter payoff was fantastic.  I used one coat over Zoya Margo on all nails except my ring finger, which is three coats over Zoya Margo.  Swatches are with topcoat.

DR. FACILIER DUO-

The second duo I have to share is inspired by Dr. Facilier from The Princess and The Frog.  This was one of the few movies I haven't seen (along with Frozen) but if the villain picture is any indication, it looks pretty intense.  Also, he looks like quite the snappy dresser ;)

The holo in this duo is called Shake a Poor Sinner's Hand and it's a red-toned grape-y purple with linear and scattered holographic shimmer.  Again, the holo was very strong indoors with this one as well.  That is an important factor to me because I spend most of my time indoors :)  The formula was slightly thicker on this one, but not too thick to be a problem.  It was very opaque in two coats and I used topcoat below.  The color was very cool to see in holo form.

Last up, another gorgeous sparkly glitter.  Friends on the Other Side is a clear glitter base with lime, emerald, and fuchsia glitters.  The green is so pretty but that pop of fuchsia just really does the trick in this polish.  Like the blue glitter, the glitter payoff was fantastic in one coat.  I used one coat over Zoya Claire on all nails except my ring finger, which was three coats over Zoya Claire.  Swatches were finished with topcoat.

Overall I have nothing but great things to say about these polishes.  The colors of the holos are really unique and cool, but honestly, both the glitters stole my heart.  They are beyond beautiful!  Laura, the creator of Ellagee polish has really made some beauties here :)

Pre-orders for this collection start September 5th and they will be available starting September 12th.  You can find them on the Ellagee website here!

*Polishes in this post were sent for review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Twinsie Tuesday-Summer to Fall Transitional Polish

Hi chickadees, welcome to Tuesday.  I hope you all are doing well.  Yesterday was good.  I thought it would be more relaxing but in the end we decided to massively clean our house before our friends came over but it looks good so I can't complain.  Our friends and their cute little baby came over for dinner and we ended up watching Parks and Rec on Netflix so it was nice to just take it easy and hang out.  It also turns out our cats are terrified of babies.  One wouldn't come out of our bedroom, one freaked out when she cried and then really needed to be pet by us, and then the third cat actually sniffed her, was okay, and then when she cried, hid under a desk.  Definitely not the reactions I was expecting.

Today's prompt was one I really enjoyed.  I really love this idea of transitional polishes and for some reason, this seasonal transition seems like a bigger one than normal.  I personally have moved away from all the brights but I'm not quite ready to rock deep vampy shades either since it has still been in the upper 80's and 90's here.  It's hotter now than it's been all Summer.  Today I have a polish I wore for three days last week and still didn't want to take off!

Yep, it's not an OPI!  Picture Polish is a brand that I have always admired from afar but the price tag always scares me away.  I actually bought this polish from a blogger in Australia for an amazing deal and that's how it ended up with me.  Initially I thought this polish would be your average bright pink but I was wrong.  While it is a fairly bright pink cream, I definitely pick up on berry tones in this polish, at least that's how it wore on me.  I think that mix of bright plus the berry make it a great transitional color.

The formula was great on the polish.  I haven't tried many Picture Polishes, but the ones I have tried I noticed a slightly thicker than average formula.  However, that thicker formula helps to make the polish really opaque in application.  I used two coats but I bet if I was careful I could have used one thick coat.  All swatches are with topcoat.

Overall I'm in love with this color and I can't wait to wear it again.  I'm all about a good transitional color right now and I can't wait to see what my fellow Twinsies pick!

OPI DS Lapis-Swatches and Review

Hi polish friends, welcome to Monday.  Happy Labor Day to my American friends, hopefully you are enjoying the day off....that's why this post is much later in the morning because you know I slept in ;)  I've been gone a few days.  I've actually felt sick since last Thursday with some stomach issues and then on Saturday I figured it out.  I've mentioned my extensive food allergies before but I've been diagnosed for over a year now and have had a good handle on it for awhile.  I actually thought I had the stomach flu but I just made a dumb food mistake.  I was eating 5 Gobstoppers a night, and they contain gluten.  My mom had given them to us and I didn't think to look them up so I had been eating them since last weekend.  It was just a dumb mistake so I've just been letting my stomach recover.  We have taken it pretty easy this weekend, with some light shopping and then I had a little What Not to Wear marathon on Netflix along with a polish swatching marathon.

Today I have a quick post, not only because it's later in the day but because our friends are coming over tonight and you know that means we need to clean our house!  Today I have a polish released last year, one of the two polishes released from the OPI DS line.  I just got last year's polishes about a week ago, but this year's releases should be arriving in my mailbox this week so I wanted to at least show this beforehand.

Last years DS polishes had a theme of drying to a slightly textured finish and being a matte and not glossy finish.  I think that's what had me hung up on not buying them.  I'm an avid OPI collector but I haven't really gotten into the DS polishes.  I thought the releases from last year looked gorgeous but textured polishes were never really my thing.  I haven't tried the second polish yet, but this one is quite different from a regular liquid sand OPI.  I finally decided to get them and I'm happy to say that they are just slightly textured.

DS Lapis is a gorgeous microglitter-bomb of denim navy blue glitters.  It's a little on the thick side but that does make it really opaque.  I didn't have any issues with formula at all and I ended up using two coats for these first matte looking swatches.  The color of this polish is just stunning and it reminds me so much of blue jeans.

This next picture below actually pains me to put up but I had to, I just had to.  I wore this polish for one day.  I applied it at night, wore it through a morning shower, then to work, and then took the picture below right when I got home from work.  So this is less then 24 hours worth of wear for me.  This polish chipped like crazy and this isn't even my dominant hand.  Every corner and edge looked like this.  I was so disappointed I had to show it.

After that chippy aftermath, let's look at this polish glossy.  I haven't tested the wear time of this polish glossy, I can only hope that it performs better than it did matte.  It does look pretty darn pretty glossy though.

For those of you that own this polish, does it wear like this for you?  I can only hope topcoat will fix the chipping problem for me, otherwise it's just a pretty bottle of polish to look at on my shelf...
