Trend Alert: Nude and Neon Nails

Hi there everyone!  Happy Thursday....one day closer to Friday :)  I seem to finally be able to get back in the swing of things which I'm very happy for.  I finally have some nail art!  I came up with the idea of a "trend series" after making plans to show my top picks for radiant orchid polishes, which I plan to film after work today.  I have a third one planned as well but if you have any trends you would like to see translated on the nail, let me know in the comments.

For today's trend I chose neon and nude.  The look ended up being more circus-y then neon but I still liked how it came out.  I love the look of neon paired with nude and think it looks really cool, especially on the nails.

To create this look, I started with a base of OPI Samoan Sand, which is a pretty sheer tan nude.  I layered two pieces of painter's tape on each nail and then filled in the triangles with polish and a small nail art brush.  The colors used include Sally Hansen Insti-dri Sonic Bloom, OPI My Paprika is Hotter Than Yours!, China Glaze Turned Up Turquoise, Nicole by OPI Hit the Lights (yellow), and China Glaze I'm With the Lifeguard.

How do you feel about pairing neons with nude?  Do you like it, hate it?  Let me know!

My Mannequin Hands Polish?

Hi there everyone!  Happy Hump Day.  I'm actually pre-writing this because I'll be in the field for work today.  Thank you for all the well wishes yesterday!  Today I have a quick post that I hadn't planned on, but as I was applying this polish, I thought that maybe I had randomly stumbled upon my mannequin hands polish.  For those who are unfamiliar with the term "mannequin hands", it basically means a polish that matches your skin tone and makes your hands look really long and lean.

I'm not 100% sure if this polish is a perfect match for me, you can let me know what you think in the comments.  I would also love to know if anyone out there has found their perfect match.  Without further ado, I give you OPI Samoan Sand.

I looked at this polish whenever I went to the store, but I've never been able to pull the trigger on it.  I was happy to see this bottle as one of my monthly OPI swap polishes.  Yes, I have a swap buddy that we only exchange OPIs since we like them so much :)  I decided to try this because I liked the color and I think this one is very close to my skin tone.  I'm very pale and I also have cool undertones.

This polish applied like a typical crelly OPI polish like the majority of the soft shades they come out with.  I used three thin coats to create an opaque finish.  The formula was really good, not too thin but also not thick.  I did use one coat of Seche Vite topcoat for my photos.

Let me know what you think in comments!  Have you found your mannequin hands polish?

Twinsie Tuesday: Favorite Glitter Topper (+bonus cat pics)

Hi there everyone, welcome to Tuesday.  I'm home sick today, probably a result of the huge amount of stress I've been under.  It usually happens, nothing a day of rest won't fix.  Today's prompt for Twinsie Tuesday is favorite glitter topper polish.  It's funny because my first thought was How on Earth am I going to pick one favorite glitter?  That's like asking me which cat is my favorite...I just can't.  So, instead, I decided to pick my favorite glitter polish right now :)

So my favorite glitter right now is Nicole by OPI Be Awesome.  I love the name and the unique diamond shaped glitter and I think it looks really good over pastel Spring polishes.  I did one coat over Maybelline Lust for Lilac.

And just to prove I couldn't pick my favorite glitter just like I couldn't pick a favorite cat, I decided to include some pictures of my little furry babies :)

Immie: The newest cat of the group, she is the sweetest and most polite cat I've ever met.  She likes to walk outside on a leash and has taken a liking to the donut pillows below.

Lucy:  The baby of the cat family, she is obsessed with food, heat sources, and looks like cookies and cream.  She's stolen a piece of pizza off my plate and ran around the house with raw bacon in her mouth.

Millie:  My oldest baby, we've had her for five and a half years.  We nursed her back to health when she was a kitten and she's loved us ever since.  She's a fiesty tortie but her absolute favorite thing in the world is to sleep in the bed.

There you have it, my favorite glitter of the moment and my sweet little girls.  Hopefully this wasn't too weird of a post, it made sense in my head I promise.  Check out what these other Twinsies chose below.

Butter London Wellies: Swatches and Review

Hey guys, long time no write.  I am happy to report that my project is finished for now (it's in the review stage) but I've worked my butt off and done my part to finish it.  At this point, I've worked for three weeks straight with no nights or weekends off.  Yesterday was the first day I wasn't working and it felt a little strange.  Good strange though.  Now I get to get back to my life, relax, and get back to the things I enjoy doing....like this :)  I am seriously low on swatches, but I have been taking photos of polishes I've been wearing lately.  This would be one of them....

I saw this polish when I released last year and I was really excited about it.  Butter Londons are out of my price range so I skipped on it but always had quite the lemming for it.  Occasionally my husband will surprise me with a BL polish so that's the only reason I have a few.  Then, a few weeks ago I went to Nordstrom Rack and spotted this little beauty for half price.  Score!

This polish is obviously a bright chartreuse green but it's on the light side of most greens like this I've seen.  The formula is very good for this bright of a polish.  I used three very thin coats to get the final result.  My swatches are also with topcoat.

Would this be a polish you would wear?

New Video: Nail Polish Haul!

Hi guys, welcome to Friday...we made it :)  I'm going to need some positive vibes sent my way because today is that day my project finally has to be done.  I'm into work early this morning just trying to get it done.  On a weirder note, on my drive to work this morning, I had to yield for a fox running down the road.  I'm going to take that as a sign of good luck :)  Below is a brand new video of some new nail polish I've picked up recently.  Have you added any good polishes to your collection lately?  Let me know in comments!

Lemon Sherbert meets Cookies & Cream Mani (+drugstore haul)

Hi guys, welcome to Thursday!  Today I have a funky combination that I wore yesterday all inspired by....ice cream :)  To start this look, I started with a base of a new color from my Julep box, Julep Sunny.  This polish is a crazy bright yellow chrome that is almost so bright it looks a little lemon lime-y.  As I wore it I thought, hey, this looks like lemon sherbert.  Then my eyes wandered over to my table full of polish to a new polish I picked up at the drugstore, L'oreal Le Pastille.  Um, if this isn't cookies and cream in polish form I'm not sure what is.  Ten tiny pieces of tape later and I have lemon sherbert with cookies and cream.  Good flavor combo for actual ice cream?  No.  Funky polish combo?  Yes!  And yes, I absolutely wore this to work.

There you have it, a horrible ice cream flavor combination mani :)  What's your favorite ice cream flavor?  I'm stuck with weird ice cream made from soy or rice but my favorite flavors of real ice cream are mint chocolate chip and strawberry (not together).  You can also check out my latest drugstore haul below!

Recent "Nail of the Day's" Part 3!

Hi guys!  I'm back :)  It's been a work whirlwind around here.  My project was supposed to be due yesterday so the night before I stayed up, slept two hours, and then went back into work.  I knew I wasn't going to be able to finish, so I made a plea to my boss to have more time and not be penalized for it (that's why my review was so bad for last year).  So I ended up with three extra days with no repercussions.  So that means I haven't swatched in two weeks, I really need to catch up!

Since I haven't swatched, today I have three of my recent nail of the days.  Usually no matter what, I will change my polish every night :)  First up, is a bright Spring combination of Butter London Wellies and Candy Lacquer Licorice Allsorts.  Wellies was high on my lemming list and when I found it for half price at Nordstrom Rack I was so excited.

Next up, another bright combination.  It seems as though I skipped Spring polishes and went straight to brights :)  This combination is OPI Toucan Do It If You Try with an accent nail of OPI Let's Do Anything We Want!

Last up is my weekend mani from last weekend.  I wanted to wear this to film my favorite red polishes but ended up not filming haha.  This combination is Ciate Play Date, which is a pretty orange leaning red, with Lumina Lacquer Dance in the Rain.

There you have it, what I've been wearing recently :)  What have you had on your nails recently?  I promise to get back to swatching soon!
